The East Village Magazine is a stalwart publication, independently published in Flint Michigan, since 1976. It’s a well-trafficked site and has loyal readers across the world, not just within the scope if it’s print edition, which is distributed in the greater Flint area.
The East Village Magazine sadly and unexpectedly recently lost it’s driving editor. That person maintained the public website through a third party, which was hosted on Joomla. When the editor, of over 40 years died, the third party saw no obligation to continue to host the out-of-date and insecure version of Joomla it was running on and sent a tarball of all of the files, data, and images to the new editor.
In a panic, without any idea of where to proceed. I was able to take the archives, migrate to a new version of WordPress, sort the domain name registration issues that are often associated with a domain, or several domains changing ownership, or being left ownerless.
We launched the new site in late 2015 and it’s going strong, though it is in desperate need of a design refresh. Though it’s design is dated, it is functional and it is portable to multiple devices and I’m proud to continue to help them.
